CuffLinks.com, the Presidential Pick

When it comes to political accessories, CuffLinks.com has it covered. With plenty of Democrat and Republican Memorabilia to choose from, even President Obama calls upon the largest retailer for cufflinks in the world to flash his Presidential duds or should I say studs!

Just days after his swearing in, President Obama attended the annual Alfalfa Club Dinner on Jan. 31. Rich with tradition, the Alfalfa Club, an exclusive Washington D.C. social organization of influential citizens and politicians, held their annual black tie event with noted exclusive members including Sen. John McCain, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Colin Powell in attendance.

With the event just days away, the ever-dapper President Obama called on CuffLinks.com to supply him with cufflinks and studs. Wearing the classic black tuxedo, he wore a white bow tie, Presidential Seal Cufflinks and gold studs, President Obama certainly did not disappoint.

Feb. 6 - This day in History

On this day in 1952, after a long illness, King George VI of Great Britain and Northern Ireland dies in his sleep at the royal estate at Sandringham. Princess Elizabeth, the oldest of the king's two daughters and next in line to succeed him, was in Kenya at the time of her father's death; she was crowned Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953, at age 27.

She is still reigning sixteen independent states and their overseas territories at age 83.

Add a splash of color

A man who knows how to wear color well can really turn some heads. Here are some tips on how to add some color in your wardrobe via French cuff shirts.

Beige is usually bad.
Beige is not a good color for any piece of clothing that frames the face.

The ribbon is blue for a reason.

French blue, which is a rich medium blue, is a flattering color for most skin tones. It makes a great dress shirt.

Stay away from loud patterns.

They are distracting and ultimately not a good thing. Some people can pull of anything, but for most, it will look like you are stuck in another era.

Open your eyes.

There are too many advice columnists these days that offer such great advice to ignore. If magazines are out for you, look up online fashion tips on men.style.com or askmen.com. Other fashion or male oriented publications usually offer fashion advice on their site as well.

Now that you have the color basics, add accessories to your cuff.

Celebrate History

February has been recognized as Black History Month for 33 years. In 2009, the year of the first black president, celebrate in style with cufflinks that commemorate the milestones our country has set into motion.

Did you know...

On February 12, 2009, the NAACP will mark its 100th anniversary. Spurred by growing racial violence in the early twentieth century, and particularly by race riots in Springfield Illinois in 1908, a group of African American leaders joined together to form a new permanent civil rights organization, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). February 12, 1909 was chosen because it was the centennial anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.

Today we would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know that Barack Obama is the first black president of the United States of America, but did you know...

Jack Johnson became the first African-American man to hold the World Heavyweight Champion boxing title in 1908. He held on to the belt until 1915.

John Mercer Langston was the first black man to become a lawyer in Ohio when he passed the Bar in 1854. When he was elected to the post of Town Clerk for Brownhelm, Ohio in 1855 Langston became one of the first African Americans ever elected to public office in America. John Mercer Langston was also the great-uncle of Langston Hughes, famed poet of the Harlem Renaissance.

Thurgood Marshall was the first African American ever appointed to the United States Supreme Court. He was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, and served on the Supreme Court from 1967 to 1991.

Show your appreciation for history and for the people in this country who have made an impact on our lives, making all of us equal and breaking gender and color barriers everywhere to make the US the great nation we are today.
